Room to Read announced today that it has joined humanitarian efforts to respond to the needs of the nearly 60,000 children living in the "welfare villages" in northern and eastern Sri Lanka that have minimal access to educational facilities to continue their education. Read the press release.

What do we need to do to volunteer? I have a background in education, teaching child development for 25 years, also have lifelong, extensive farming and gardening background, and extensive world travel and excellent health. I live in CA, USA

Hi Bettye-Ann,
Thanks so much for your enthusiasm for our work!
Rather than using volunteers in Sri Lanka or the other countries in which we work to help with our projects, we encourage the local villages to get involved and co-own the projects. We have found this model to promote longer-term sustainability of these projects. Our country programs are all initiated and managed by residents of the country.
If you are interested in participating in volunteer fundraising opportunities, I encourage you to fill out our volunteer application online (http://www.roomtoread.org/volunteer) and check out the locations of our worldwide network of volunteer fundraising chapters (http://www.roomtoread.org/chapters).
Thanks again!
The Room to Read Team
